With Amir Khan’s upcoming bout against Samuel Vargas set to take place on Saturday, Khan's last opponent, Phil Lo Greco, has been reflecting on his shocking first-round knockout five months ago.

Lo Greco lost to Khan at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on April 21 within the first 40 seconds and simply couldn't get to grips with the Bolton-born ace.

Khan was appearing in the ring for the first time since 2016 but showed little sign of any rustiness by blowing away his American opponent, who revealed he hasn't even watched the fight back since.

“I don't know what I was thinking. I've never watched the fight, and I won't," he told Sky Sports.

"I remember that I stuck my hand out because I wanted to get my distance and I left my chin out, as if to say 'hit me with that right hand please,' and he did.”

Although it is difficult to make too many conclusions from a fight that ends within 40 seconds, Lo Greco believes he would handle things very differently if given another chance.

He added: “[I'd] Listen to my instincts. Hire my old trainer, because I had an instinct to go back to Montreal, and I was advised instead to go to Las Vegas. Fernando Vargas did a great job training me, but I would go back to my roots.

"The reason why I didn't go - it was cold and I had over 38 pounds to lose. I lost a lot of weight. Vegas was much warmer and I was able to lose the weight better there, and I did. I got in great shape, it just wasn't my night.”

Lo Greco, now 34, was in a state of shock after the defeat, so much so he broke down in tears in the dressing room.

"Khan's speed, you know it happened so quick, I didn't even have time to think," the American continued. "I went back to the dressing room, I was literally crying. I said 'why would this happen to me? I trained so hard.'

"I went outside, I grabbed a cigar, and I started smoking. That's how upset I was. I smoked my cigar, I was just trying to figure out what happened. His speed - he's definitely fast."

With the Khan-Lo Greco fight being known at the time as a statement fight for Khan to show to his possible future opponent in Kell Brook, Lo Greco believes that the fight will never happen. Brook was in attendance at the fight in April but the odds of it happening are slim according to Lo Greco;

“No. I personally don't believe it's going to happen. I would like to see it happen, but I don't think it's going to happen. There's always that one fight that doesn't happen, and I think it's going to be that one.”
