EA Sports have the unenviable task of rating the world's top players ever year.No matter what decision they make, football fans will always have their complaints and that's certainly understandable when big debates are being settled with single numbers. That was especially the case this year when FIFA 19 even attempted to end the age-old argument between Paul Scholes, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.Fans were given a teaser of the new ratings upon the release of the demo but now the official verdicts are being unveiled. The company are working their way through the new game's top 100 players by making a certain number of them public each day.

EA Sports unveil FIFA 19 ratings

By the end of it all, EA will have cast their verdict on Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as well as top players such as Luka Modric, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Those talking points will have to wait for now, though, and even the first 40 reveals by EA are starting to cause debate.

Liverpool fans were rather miffed when they saw the new Virgil van Dijk card, especially considering his physical and pace stats were both given a downgrade.

Liverpool fans react to Ederson and Otamendi ratings

Nevertheless, 85 represented a solid rating ahead of the second announcement but supporters aren't happy once again.

Two key Manchester City players made their way into the latest list with Nicolas Otamendi and Ederson both being handed an 86 card.

That means that EA have categorically ranked both City players higher than their Liverpool counterparts of Van Dijk and - of course - Alisson Becker.

To say that decision hasn't gone down well on Twitter would be putting things mildly and Kopites are passionately defending their players on social media.

Check out the reaction below:

Giving Ederson the nod over Alisson is certainly an eye-catching move from EA, especially when you consider the Liverpool man is chosen as Brazil's number one.

As for Van Dijk, supporters are starting to consider him as one of the best centre-backs in world football after an impressive 2018 and fail to see how Otamendi has outperformed him.

The Argentine has come on leaps and bounds under Pep Guardiola but there's a strong argument that - for all his promising showings - he remains inferior to Van Dijk.

You can certainly understand why Liverpool fans are so angry with the decision, even if City's Premier League win stands as a pretty substantial counterargument.

Kopites will have to keep their fingers crossed that Alisson and Van Dijk maintain their form this season and work towards proving EA wrong.

City hold the advantage at the moment but Liverpool fans will be hoping the winter upgrades change things.
