Johnny Nelson has predicted a win for Amir Khan in a potential super fight between himself and fellow British former world champion Kell Brook.

Much has been made of a potential blockbuster bout between the two former world champions, but repeated breakdowns in communications between both side's camps threatened to call a halt to any talk of the fight ever being made.

Now, however, with Khan looking to once again re-establish himself as a top contender with a win over Samuel Vargas on Saturday, talk has already turned to whether Brook might just be the next name on the Bolton-born fighter's list.

In a wide-ranging interview with iFL TV ahead of Khan's clash with Vargas, Nelson was asked who he thought would triumph, if ever the two were to face off in the ring.

"When it was first announced, I actually thought that Khan would beat Kell" Nelson told iFL TV. "I actually think that Khan would beat Kell, at welterweight, because I don't think that Kell should be welterweight. I think he is a light middleweight"

"Kell is the don when he is stronger, but I actually think Khan could beat Kell at welterweight. He's the fastest fighter I've ever seen. But the problem is, does Khan think he'd beat Kell?"

Brook and Khan have a long and bitter history, with both having previously claimed that they are the biggest name when it comes to the welterweight division - both domestically and internationally.

Whether the fight would actually be at welterweight is another potential stumbling block, however. Khan weighed in right on the 147lb welterweight limit for his fight with Vargas.

Brook, on the other hand, would surely face a harder fight to make the cut once again to his old weight, with two of his previous three fights having come at substantially over the 147 limit - 153 against Siarhei Rabchanka, and 159 against Gennady Golovkin.

The last time Brook fought at welterweight, he surrendered his IBF title to Errol Spence Jr. after a vicious 11 round affair which saw Brook's team throw in the towel, after the Sheffield-born man suffered a second broken eye socket in as many fights - having broken his other eye in the 5th round loss against Golovkin.
