A host of star names made an appearance at Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon for Stiliyan Petrov and James Milner’s ‘A Match for Cancer’.

As well as Milner and Petrov, who was diagnosed with acute leukaemia in March 2012, the likes of Ashley Young, Jamie Redknapp and Dirk Kuyt also took part in the charity game.

Petrov’s squad was managed by Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers, while Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp took charge of Milner’s squad.

A hugely entertaining 3-3 draw ensued, with F2 freestyler Jeremy Lynch opening the scoring for Milner’s side from the penalty spot early on.

Robbie Keane equalised for Petrov’s XI shortly afterwards, only for Milner’s XI to re-take the lead through World Cup winner Joan Capdevila.

Young then made it 2-2 before Capdevila restored his side’s one-goal advantage with his second of the afternoon before half-time.

However, Gabby Agbonlahor’s equaliser with 25 minutes left to play made it 3-3 and no further goals were scored.

Hart makes LFC TV commentators laugh

In the final 15 minutes, Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart - who had previously been playing in goal for Milner’s XI - re-entered the fray as an outfield player.

And he made the commentators on LFC TV chuckle by writing ‘Joe 0’ on the back of a random shirt in pen.

Full marks for imagination, Joe.

Hart wasn’t able to get himself on the scoresheet, although he was presented with one half-chance to net what would have been the winning goal.

Only in a charity match would you see Hart out on pitch with his name writing on the back of his shirt in black marker pen.

“It was fun,” Hart told Celtic’s official YouTube channel. “Obviously it’s for a great cause, a great turnout. I think everyone’s a winner today.

“It’s brilliant. Stan and Millie are obviously doing very honourable things in what they’ve done and you can see by the reaction from the friends and supporters, inside of football and outside of football.

“It’s nice to give back sometimes and put a smile on people’s faces.”

Well said, Joe.
