It’s often said that in order to be a goalkeeper you need to be a little bit crazy - and this is perhaps why Jens Lehmann played in between the sticks during his career rather than out on pitch.‘Mad Jens’, as he became affectionately known, did many weird and wonderful things before hanging up his gloves in 2011.Best known for his first spell with Arsenal, which lasted five years between 2003-2008, controversy was never far away whenever Lehmann was on the pitch. But underneath craziness and controversy was a very good ‘keeper who shone for the Gunners and represented his country, Germany, 61 times. He still holds the UEFA Champions League record for the most consecutive clean sheets, not conceding a single goal in 10 successive matches while playing for Arsenal.Lehmann also played in every match of Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ season - and for this reason alone will always be regarded as a club hero.On Saturday afternoon, the 48-year-old returned to the Emirates Stadium to play for an ‘Arsenal Legends’ team against their Real Madrid counterparts.

Lehmann's antics cracks up Arsenal fans

Lehmann was joined by the likes of David Seaman, Robert Pires and Ray Parlour, while Raul, Claude Makelele and Fernando Morientes were some of the star names who featured for Real Madrid.

Just over 43,000 people turned out to watch the match but, unfortunately, no goals were scored.

The game was subsequently decided by a penalty shoot-out - and Lehmann cracked up Arsenal fans with his antics.

After Lehmann saved from Alfonso Perez, Arsenal had the chance to win the shoot-out. Tomas Rosicky stepped up to take the next spot-kick but was denied by, who guessed it, Lehmann.

The German shot-stopper told Rosicky to step aside and then proceeded to rifle the winning penalty into the top corner of the net.

Rosicky initially looked bemused after being told by Lehmann that his services were not required - but the technically-gifted midfielder had to hand it to his former teammate after witnessing that unstoppable penalty.
