The international break came at a rather annoying time for Manchester United and Jose Mourinho.

After back-to-back defeats to Brighton and Tottenham, the Red Devils seemed to rediscover their mojo away at Burnley, winning 2-0.

Romelu Lukaku scored twice in that game and Mourinho would have wanted to try and keep momentum going instead of having to break for international duty.

Nevertheless, some of United's players have been enjoying themselves while away.

Lukaku scored against Scotland, Marcus Rashford did the same versus Spain and summer signing Fred got some well-deserved minutes for Brazil.

Luke Shaw also looked promising on his England return, but a head injury saw his game cut short - the injury updates about the left-back seem to be positive, though.

Mourinho's focus for the international break will, of course, be keeping an eye on those on duty with their country's and working those in training who are not.

But a story has emerged from The Sun suggesting that the manager and club could be using the time to plan some serious January transfer business.

They report that Mourinho is ready to snatch the £60m signing of Wolves' star midfielder Ruben Neves from under the noses of Manchester City.

Mourinho was waiting to see how the Portuguese would adapt to the Premier League, but is ready to bring his plans forward after Pep Guardiola's interest.

The Spaniard views Neves as the ideal player to bring in after missing out on the signing of Jorginho in the summer.

It would see a transfer battle between the two Manchester clubs similar to that of Alexis Sanchez, with United eventually winning that one.

Wolves would likely demand that Neves remain with the club for the remainder of the season as part of the deal.

It would be a huge statement of intent from Mourinho and could be yet another indication that Paul Pogba's future at Old Trafford is far from certain.
