Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum have established themselves as one of the best backcourt duos in the NBA.But despite each putting up big numbers in recent years, only Lillard has earned an All-Star appearance out of the two. However, he had to fight and work hard for each of his three appearances. The point guard believed he was snubbed in 2016 and 2017 and has expressed his frustrations publicly. The 28-year-old wasn't overlooked last season, though, as he was rewarded for an impressive campaign. In a Western Conference loaded with talented guards, there are always one or two players who are left disappointed.McCollum has often been that guy in the last couple of years but Lillard is hoping that can soon change.“CJ is an All-Star talent, for sure, there’s no question,” he told Michael Scotto of The Athletic. “I would love to see him make an All-Star game. That would be awesome.”

All-Star numbers

In the 2017-18 campaign, Dame posted 26.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game - which also earned him All-NBA honours.

His teammate wasn't far behind as McCollum put up 21.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.4 assists over 81 games.

The 26-year-old has averaged 20 or more points in the last three seasons and is one of the best scoring guards in the west.

But he has been hurt by the fierce competition around him as he has to battle the likes of Russell Westbrook, Stephen Curry, James Harden and Chris Paul, as well as his own teammate Lillard.

With only five or six guard spots available, it's become hugely difficult for McCollum to force his way in ahead of those superstars.

Last year, he was 12th in the fan voting behind the likes of Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Lonzo Ball.

The voting for the All-Star game may have changed recently but that still hasn't benefited the former Lehigh product.

There's no doubt that the shooting guard is worthy of a place but he'll find it extremely tough dislodging the aforementioned players.

Even Paul was left out last season despite enjoying a fine campaign with the Houston Rockets, which shows just how difficult it is for McCollum.

But if he continues to put up big numbers and improve, he'll surely earn himself a spot in the coming years.
