England's UEFA Nations League campaign began on Saturday evening with a 2-1 defeat to Spain at Wembley Stadium. In their first match since the enthralling run to the 2018 World Cup semi-final, England saw goals from Saul and Rodrigo cancel out Marcus Rashford's opener. One of the biggest moments of the match came early in the second period when Luke Shaw had to be stretchered off following a collision with Dani Carvajal. The left-back has been Manchester United's stand-out player so far this season, winning their Player of the Month award, and deserved his England recall. It's not the circumstances in which Shaw would've liked to leave the pitch, and now Carvajal's actions after the full-time whistle have emerged.

Shaw shines before collision v Spain

Going forward, there aren't too many left-backs better than Shaw when he's in full flow, and he proved that with a brilliant assist for Rashford's goal.

However, after accidentally colliding with Carvajal and hitting the ground in hard, uncomfortable fashion, the 23-year-old required a stretcher and an oxygen mask.

Shaw has since posted on social media to thank fans for their love and support whilst insisting he'll be back soon, but what about Carvajal?

The Spanish defender was visibly worried about Shaw's condition and didn't move for six minutes as the FA's medical staff attended to the Man Utd man.

After England 1-2 Spain, Carvajal went to the home dressing room in an effort to find Shaw, but the Englishman had been taken straight to hospital for an MRI scan.

Carvajal's actions when he couldn't find Shaw

So, per Marca, Carvajal didn't rest on his mission and decided to call on David de Gea, his fellow Spaniard, who is teammates with Shaw at club level.

The Real Madrid right-back asked De Gea for Shaw's phone number, and once the goalkeeper obliged, he immediately sent the injured player a direct message.

Marca reported that Shaw responded to Carvajal by "acknowledging there was no malicious intent from the 26-year-old and that it was just a collision caused by a loose ball".

Carvajal had to be substituted off himself 37 minutes into Real's Champions League final win over Liverpool, so he can certainly relate to Shaw's situation.
