WWE fans often like to debate about the differences between the promotion's established main roster and developing NXT brand.

Of course, both are part of the company - except one is under the control of Vince McMahon, while the other is widely run by Triple H.

They're not really in competition, but that doesn't stop fans suggesting that one show is better than the other.

THE DEBATE

Interestingly, those that watch both, often claim that NXT is superior to SmackDown and RAW.

That's become a more common view recently, especially after SummerSlam weekend last month, when NXT's PPV, TakeOver, overshadowed WWE's second biggest show of the year.

Interestingly though, it's not just fans who think that the developmental brand is better than the main roster.

On a recent episode of The Steve Austin Show, Hall of Famer Stone Cold touched on this debate - and revealed that he thinks NXT is better than WWE - and he absolutely nails why.

THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE

"The thing I like about the NXT thing is it's almost like the main roster is almost trying to cover or cater to everybody. And to me, the NXT thing is more," he began, per Wrestling Inc.

"They are both under the same umbrella, it's WWE, it's sports entertainment. It ain't pro wrestling anymore. Now, it's sports entertainment officially, but in my mind, it's still pro wrestling.

"To me, NXT, it's kind of like a throwback. And it's all modern stuff, great lighting, great production values, everything else, but the storylines are very easy to understand and very simple."

OLD SCHOOL VALUES

Basically, Stone Cold is suggesting that NXT is more simple and easier to watch. In fact, he believes that the main roster lacks that, and that's the reason it's struggling.

"Sometimes when I watch the main roster stuff, it's like they're trying to play to so many people that the storylines get kind of convoluted."

Of course, it's clear that Austin holds the old school wrestling values. He likes simplicity and storytelling - like most fans do.

So, perhaps Vince should take a leaf out of NXT's book - and go back to what's worked for so long, rather than continuing to reshape pro-wrestling into sports entertainment.
