Pep Guardiola remains one of the best managers in the world.

The Spanish boss is expressing his talent as a manager at Manchester City, where he led his side to 100 points in the 2017/18 Premier League season.

But it was at Barcelona where the now 47-year-old gained his reputation as a world class manager.

Guardiola won three league titles and lifted the Champions League twice in what was a remarkable four season spell.

He left the club in 2012 to join Bayern Munich, with Tito Vilanova succeeding him at the helm.

Guardiola was highly active during his spell as manager, where he spent over £300 million in his four seasons.

That includes spending £120 million on his last six signings. But what happened to those players?

David Villa

Signed for £36 million in 2010, Villa would fail to replicate the goalscoring feats he enjoyed at previous club, Valencia.

He still had a successful spell, scoring 48 times in 119 appearances, before departing for Atletico Madrid in 2013.

Now 36, Villa is winding his career down in the United States with New York City.

Adriano

The full-back was signed for £8.5 million in 2010 but would never establish himself as a first team regular.

He was still a reliable option for the club, however, where he would feature 189 times.

Adriano currently plays at Besiktas after leaving for the Turkish outfit in 2016.

Javier Mascherano

What a servant Mascherano was for Barcelona.

Signed as a defensive midfielder, the Argentine would make the unlikely transition to centre-back during his spell.

He left in January earlier this year for Hebei China after making 334 appearances for the Catalan giants.

Ibrahim Afellay

Afellay only signed for £3 million from PSV but it's fair to say he failed to live up to expectations.

He left for Stoke City in 2015. However, he has failed to make an appearance for the club since December 2017.

Alexis Sánchez

Barcelona spent £23.40m for Sanchez in 2011 and that proved to be money well spent.

The Chilean winger would spend three seasons at Barcelona before departing for Arsenal in 2014.

He joined Manchester United earlier this year after a successful three and a half year spell with the north London club.

Cesc Fàbregas

Barcelona were finally able to prise Fabregas away from Arsenal for £30 million in 2011.

He would feature heavily in his three season spell at the club, where he made 151 appearances, before departing for Chelsea in 2014.
