Amir Khan has fired back at former boxer Carl Froch after defeating Samuel Vargas on Saturday night.

Khan, making his second appearance after his made a comeback to the sport in April, lifted himself off the canvas to eventually see off 10/1 outsider Vargas on points in Birmingham.

And the Bolton-born fighter was quick to call out megastar Manny Pacquiao once his hand was raised in a unanimous victory.

But former super-middleweight boxer Froch, speaking to popular boxing channel IFL TV, has claimed Khan is only coming back for a pay cheque - which the I'm a Celebrity star has taken clear offence to.

It's fair to say that the man from Bolton didn't hold back and unleashed a scathing attack on Froch.

“Listen, on a serious note, I’ve got more money than Carl Froch,” he told IFL TV.

“And that’s a serious note mate. I’m telling you, I’ve made a lot more money than him. I’ve been very successful in the sport of boxing, I’m not coming back for the pay cheques. I want the biggest fights.

“When a fighter says that I’m coming back for the pay cheque, that is wrong. I think that’s just b*******s. I’m not doing it for the money. I’m doing it for the love of the sport.

“If it was all about a pay cheque, I would have probably taken the Kell Brook fight straight away because I know that’s a massive pay cheque.

“But I want to regroup my career again, get back on winning ways again and then take the right fights when I think it’s the right time.”

As Khan states, a fight with fellow Brit Kell Brook is another option for his next bout - something that promoter Eddie Hearn needs to be "now or never."

Brook, who held the IBF welterweight title from 2014-17, has wanted an all-UK showdown with Khan for some time.

Khan insists that Pacquiao is the one that he wants though.

“Anyone in the world would want a Manny Pacquiao name on their resumé to say ‘I beat Manny Pacquiao’,” he said.

“I’m in a position where I’m the same weight as Manny Pacquiao, he’s looking for a fight, I’m looking for a fight. Let’s make the fight happen.

“Whenever I fight it’s a global event. The thing with the Pacquiao fight is it’s a massive fight because he’s a massive global name as well as myself. So that fight globally is bigger.”

It currently looks unlikely that Khan would be able to take Pacquiauo down on current form though, having struggled past Vargas and lost to Saul Alvarez in his last big encounter.
