It's been an incredible few weeks for Alphonse Areola. The 25-year-old goalkeeper has managed to displace Gianluigi Buffon at PSG after starting the season on the bench.Areola was rewarded by the French national team, making his international debut in a 0-0 stalemate with Germany in the UEFA Nations League last week.He produced a Man of the Match performance to keep Germany at bay with a string of spectacular saves. And PSG coach Thomas Tuchel has now confirmed that Areola is his number 1 ahead of Buffon."Yes, I chose. The decision is not final but I told Alphonse that he was in my opinion in pole position to be number one," Tuchel told RMC Sport, as per Sky Sports."He comes from the training centre. PSG, that's all for him, and he absolutely wants to prove himself to PSG. PSG is everything to him."

Areola's stunning athleticism

With Hugo Lloris injured, the talented goalkeeper kept his place in the France XI for Sunday night's 2-1 victory over Holland.

Ahead of kick-off, Areola highlighted just how flexible he is by effortlessly kicking the crossbar.

Even Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be impressed.

According to Chelsea's head of goalkeeping, Christophe Lollichon, Areola wanted to move to Stamford Bridge as Thibaut Courtois' replacement this summer.

“We spoke a lot in the summer,” Lollichon told Le Figaro, as per the Evening Standard. “He wanted to come here, but the final decision was not my responsibility.

"It would have been a pleasure to work with him.”

Lollichon believes Areola should be France's number one ahead of Lloris.

"I didn’t wait until Thursday to discover Alphonse. For me, he’s the best current French goalkeeper. He has all the characteristics to be France’s No 1," he added.

"The height, ability with ball in his feet, wingspan, his diving ability, footwork. He’s the most adapted to how they play."
