There’s no question Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are two of the most exciting players in world football at present.

Between them, the Paris Saint-German duo scored 49 goals in all competitions last season, firing them to four trophies to partially gloss over a disappointing round of 16 exit from the Champions League.

They experienced somewhat contrasting fortunes at the 2018 World Cup, with Neymar and Brazil bowing at the quarter-final stage before Mbappe helped win France’s first major trophy in 18 years.

While the South American drew heavy criticism for his theatrical reactions to being fouled, his younger counterpart lit up the tournament with four goals and terrorised opponents of even the highest quality.

If there was any remaining doubt whether Mbappe is capable of becoming one of the best in the world, he surely washed it away in Russia.

Given some may now already hold the 19-year-old in the same regard as Neymar, what a luxury it must be for Thomas Tuchel to have them both on the books at the Parc des Princes.

The German is blessed with one of the most talented and expensive squads in Europe, which only intensifies the enormous expectation on his shoulders.

Tuchel simply must ensure PSG become a consistent force in the Champions League, and he’ll need Mbappe and Neymar on fire to succeed.

Being able to select the two most expensive signings of all-time on the same team sheet is akin to playing fantasy football. But who would one of the French giants’ biggest continental rivals poach from them given the chance?

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone could well be tasked with attempting to stop the pair at some point this season, but when asked which he would prefer to have on his side, his response was typical.

“Neymar. In the Barcelona team of Luis Enrique, when he needed to work, he worked,” he told Spanish broadcaster Cadena COPE, per Goal.

“Mbappe is more individualistic and doesn’t have a definitive role. Neymar has a fixed position.”

It’s no secret the Argentine favours industry over flamboyancy.

Simeone requires his players to adopt a disciplined mentality as a collective, which is perhaps why he implied one of his Atletico stars has been important in helping Mbappe succeed with France.

“[Antoinne] Griezmann has a different kind of game,” he added.

“I read that Mbappe is more powerful and quicker than him, but Griezmann is the pilot.”

Well, there’s only one man on the planet who needn’t worry about deciding between Mbappe and Neymar - Thomas Tuchel.
