Former Heavyweight champion Frank Bruno has backed fellow Brit Anthony Joshua to beat Doentay Wilder in any potential match-up.

Boxing fans have been left frustrated by the collapse in talks between the two current heavyweight champions Joshua and Wilder that has resulted in both fighters seeking other bouts.

Anthony Joshua is returning to action against 39-year-old Russian fighter Alexander Povetkin at the end of the month while Wilder is set to face up against Tyson Fury later in the year.

Former WBC champ Frank Bruno also believes that Joshua's team were correct in refusing to fight in America when they are in the 'driving seat'.

“Money talks and bulls*** walks but the Hearns, they know the business and they’re in the driving seat at the moment," Bruno told talkSPORT.

“I think Deontay Wilder wanted Anthony Joshua to go over to America.

“Why would Anthony Joshua go over to America when he’s got four belts and he’s more in the driving seat?

“I think he should keep it over here... He’s the boss at the moment. If the shoe was on the other foot and Deontay Wilder had all the belts, he’d be calling the shots.

“Why go over to America when you can hold 90,000/100,000 at a football ground and you can demand as much money as if you’re going to America.

“They’d play all tricks in America you know.

“I hope we will see that fight. But I still pick Anthony Joshua to beat him because I think Anthony Joshua’s the main man at this time."

Bruno believes that while Joshua will be looking forward to a match-up with Wilder, he will need to be clever in his upcoming fight against experienced fighter Povetkin.

“I think, as long as Anthony Joshua plays it cool, boxes clever and uses his power, uses his height, he should do a number on him.

“But the guy’s a very, very dangerous guy, his record speaks for itself. I think he’s seen better days, but he’s still a dangerous guy.”
