FIFA 19 will be released within the next couple of weeks and fans of Scottish football will no doubt be keen to see how EA Sports have rated Celtic and Rangers’ players on this year’s version of the game.

The gap between the two Old Firm rivals has been narrowed slightly following Steven Gerrard’s appointment as Rangers boss in the summer.

Although Celtic dominated the first derby of the season between the two clubs at Celtic Park earlier this month, Rangers only lost 1-0 - and Gerrard felt that was only because of the referee, Willie Collum.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp believes that Rangers are now closer to Celtic following Gerrard’s arrival and, based on last season’s games between the clubs, it’s hard to disagree with that assessment.

"I have seen a few games because Stevie has three of my former players, two on loan and [Jon Flanagan]," Klopp was quoted as saying by ESPN. "[Gerrard] is doing well. I am not sure what the Rangers fans expect but the start was brilliant actually.

"Then you lose against Celtic. Wow, what a surprise! That is a top team in the league. Celtic were not 50 or 60 percent better like in the last few years so they are coming closer. That is the only way to get them one day.”

But do EA Sports agree with Klopp’s view - is the gap between Celtic and Rangers now closer than last season?

How Celtic and Rangers' players are rated on FIFA 19

Well, EA clearly feel that Celtic’s star players are superior to Rangers, looking at the individual ratings.

The best player in Scotland on FIFA 19 is Celtic’s tenacious midfielder Scott Brown, who has an overall rating of 77.

That might surprise some people, though, especially as the likes of Kieran Tierney (76), Olivier Ntcham (73) and Odsonne Edouard (72) all have lower ratings than their 33-year-old teammate.

Celtic have seven ‘gold’ players on FIFA 19 - not including the listed Moussa Dembele, who recently left Glasgow for Lyon - whereas Rangers have none.

Their highest-rated players are James Tavernier, Daniel Candeias and Ryan Jack, who all have ratings of 74.

Alfredo Morelos, Jamie Murphy, Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor are one behind on 73.

Andy Halliday is the lowest-rated Rangers regular at 65.
