When Manchester United splashed a world-record £89 million to re-sign Paul Pogba in 2016, it was supposed to be a transfer for the next decade.

The 23-year-old arrived as one of best central midfielders in Europe, signing a lucrative five-year deal.

A little more than two years later, and it’s not quite panning out how United expected.

Pogba has failed to hit the heights that were expected of him, while his relationship with Jose Mourinho is extremely strained.

And it seems many United fans already want him to leave the club.

Pogba certainly doesn’t help himself.

He’s constantly in the media, suggesting things between him and his Jose Mourinho are far from perfect.

And he cast doubt on his future just last week when he claimed that there’s a possibility of him leaving the club in January.

“My future is currently in Manchester, I still have a contract, I’m playing there at the moment, but who knows what will happen in the next few months,” Pogba said.

Many of the fans have had enough but we’re not too sure what Pogba’s current teammates think of his behaviour.

But we do know what former United right-back Gary Neville thinks of Pogba, though.

Speaking to The Times, Neville has revealed what he’d say to the midfielder in the dressing room if he was still a United player.

"He’s a talented player but I want to see more consistency and leadership,’” Neville said.

“As a fan, honestly, part of me is that no one is bigger than the club and I am not interested in people who are looking left and right.

“So Paul, if you want to go play somewhere else, let’s make that work for you because Manchester United will be fine, don’t worry about that.

“The owner in me would do what United are doing at the moment, saying he is not for sale.

“If I was still in that dressing room giving personal advice it would be, ‘Paul, it’s obvious you want to play somewhere else but be professional. Don’t be someone who is seen as a mercenary or a mutineer. You don’t need to do that.'

“So there are four ways to look at it — pundit, owner, fan, a personal word.”

Well said, Gary.

Maybe current United players need to have a quiet with Pogba and tell him to buck up his ideas.

After all, if he wants a big-money move to Barcelona, he’ll have to step up his performances and perform more consistently.

That’s the least you’d expect if you’re getting paid £290,000-per-week…
