Chris Jericho has enjoyed a career resurgence in the last 12 months.

Last appearing as an active full-time WWE superstar in May 2017, Y2J decided to test the waters in New Japan Pro Wrestling, putting on a classic against Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12 in January.

And after appearing at WWE's 'Greatest Royal Rumble' event in Saudi Arabia in April, Jericho returned to the Far East in June to snatch the IWGP Intercontinental Championship from the hands of Tetsuya Naito.

That made him the first man to hold both the IWGP and WWE version of the title, and Jericho was riding on the crest of a wave, apparently with the support of his former boss Vince McMahon.

Working at Ring of Honor's historic Madison Square Garden show the night before WrestleMania 35 may be something completely different - as apparently WWE tried to block the promotion running an event at an arena they have history with.

Jericho has previously said he wouldn't work for another promotion on U.S. soil out of respect for McMahon, and his appearance at All In technically didn't break his word, as it wasn't tied to one particular brand.

And Jericho has revealed that he's enjoying not having to work under the 'higher power' of the WWE in the current moment.

"In WWE when you work there, once again, you gotta go with whatever it is that he wants to go with," said Jericho.

"That's fine. When you work for Vince that's just the way it is, but it's fun to not work for Vince right now, and have some of these other ideas you can kind of explore."

Jericho also admitted that being in-control for the first time in his career is satisfying.

"At this point in time, I think for the first time in my career in 28 years, I'm kind of completely in control and it's fun, ya know?" Jericho continued.

"I really enjoy not having to run my ideas that I know are gonna work through a committee of two or three people, or having to wait three hours in front of a door to go pitch it to one guy and hope that he likes it."

So Y2J seems to be enjoying his freedom right now, but do you want him to make a return to WWE soon? Let us know in the comments.
