Of all the rookies entering the NBA this season, Trae Young will arguably be facing the most pressure as the Atlanta Hawks are banking on him becoming the cornerstone of their franchise. They surprised many people when they chose to trade away the number three pick Luka Doncic to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Young who was taken fifth. The 19-year-old wasn't projected to go in the top five but the Hawks set their sights on him and were prepared to take a gamble. At number three, they had an opportunity to select more secure picks such as Doncic, Jaren Jackson Jr. or even Mo Bamba. But they have real belief that the young point guard can become a star in the league.

All eggs in the Young basket

To prove they're all in on Young, they traded their starting point guard Dennis Schroder to the Oklahoma City Thunder this summer to ensure that he'll take the reigns.

They were attracted to him largely because of his shooting ability as they believe he can excel in this current NBA era that is dominated by the three-point shot.

The Oklahoma product is a talented shooter who has supreme confidence pulling up from anywhere on the floor.

In his lone season in college, he was often compared to Stephen Curry due to his range.

It'll be a hugely difficult comparison for Young to live up to but one way he's hoping to do so is by breaking an incredible three-point record currently held by the Golden State Warriors superstar.

Curry's 13 threes in a single game is the NBA record at present but the new Hawks star fancies himself to beat that mark.

Ambitious

“I would like to break it,” Young said, according to Aaron Dodson of The Undefeated.

“I definitely feel like I’m capable of breaking it. But that’s a lot of threes in a game. I ain’t gonna lie.”

For the Texas native to land 14 or more triples in a game, he would have to get extremely hot, which would be an incredible sight to behold.

Steph's record-breaking night came against the helpless New Orleans Pelicans in 2016 as he sent the Oracle Arena into raptures with a remarkable display of shooting.

Young has shown that he can catch fire as he nailed a season-high 10 threes in one college game and also nailed seven in a Summer League win over the Chicago Bulls.

He'll also have a lot more minutes and ball-handling responsibilities with Atlanta which should allow him the freedom to let it fly from beyond the arc.

It'll be a big ask but if he's able to break the record one day, those Curry comparisons may not look so crazy after all.
