FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer once again look set to battle for the title of best football game ahead of the former's release on September 28.

PES 2019 has been out for just over two weeks now and soon gamers will get the chance to compare it to EA Sports' new-and-improved FIFA 19.

Big changes have been made to both games, with Konami's PES feeling more realistic than ever and FIFA introducing a new game mode called 'No Rules'.

And it's exactly as it sounds: no fouls, no offside, anything goes.

What's always interesting around this time of year is how the world's best players are rated on both FIFA and PES.

With a 94 rating, Cristiano Ronaldo was ranked the top player on FIFA 18 above Lionel Messi, though the Argentine was rated higher on PES 2018.

So how does the top five on FIFA 19 compare to the top five on PES 2019 this time around? Let's have a look.

5. KEVIN DE BRUYNE (91, FIFA) / MOHAMED SALAH (90, PES)

Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah were both incredible for Manchester City and Liverpool respectively last season, so it's no surprise that they're floating around the top five.

Salah's 90 rating on PES is more than he was given on FIFA (88), whereas De Bruyne just missed out on PES' top five with 90.

4. LUKA MODRIC (91, FIFA) / DAVID DE GEA (91, PES)

At long last, Luka Modric is being recognised on football games as one of the world's best players - at least on FIFA he is anyway.

PES have only given the Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder 89 but made David de Gea, who is also rated 91 on FIFA, their fourth top-rated player.

3. NEYMAR (92, FIFA) / NEYMAR (93, PES)

Nothing to see here really. Neymar is widely regarded as the third best player in the world behind Messi and Ronaldo and this just about shows that's the case.

The Brazilian has been given a slightly higher rating of 93 on PES, but third is where he belongs regardless.

2. LIONEL MESSI (94, FIFA) / CRISTIANO RONALDO (94, PES)

For the first time in God knows how long Messi and Ronaldo have been given the exact same rating of 94 on both FIFA and PES.

What's interesting, though, is the order they've come in...

1. CRISTIANO RONALDO (94, FIFA) / LIONEL MESSI (94, PES)

So, clearly FIFA believe Ronaldo is the best player in the world and PES think it's Messi. FIFA's rankings might have something to do with Ronaldo being their cover star, though.

Messi and Ronaldo are rated the same on both games but separated by their individual statistics like pace, shooting and passing, which make up their overall rating.
