It’s been 10 years since Sergio Busquets made his debut for Barcelona.

During the past decade, Busquets had developed into the best defensive midfielder in world football, helping Barcelona win a ridiculous amount of trophies.

The Spaniard played under Pep Guardiola at Barcelona B before following the manager to the first-team for the 2008/09 season.

And it didn’t take long for everyone to realise just how good this kid was.

In fact, it took Lionel Messi just a few training sessions to have a word with Guardiola about this new midfielder.

"I remember what Messi told me," Guardiola told Universo Valdano, per Goal.

"After two or three days of training with him, he came to me and said, 'I like this one'. And I said, 'When there is trouble, he will be there'.

"He does everything for those around him."

And Guardiola has been spot on to this very day.

Busquets may not make as many headlines as Messi, but he’s been equally important to Barca over the past 10 years.

He’s made almost 500 appearances for the club and has got his hands on 28 trophies whilst at the Camp Nou.

And it wasn’t just Messi that he impressed during those first few days of training.

A quote from legendary midfielder Xavi has also emerged detailing exactly what he thought of Busquets when he first trained with the senior squad.

“The first time Pep brought Sergio Busquets to train with us, I realized we were facing a special player,” Xavi said.

“But none of us had the foresight to anticipate that Busquets was going to develop into the best midfielder in the world, as he is today.”

Even to this day, some football fans don’t fully appreciate the work Busquets does for this Barcelona side.

But he’s probably been the finest player in his position for many years and the reaction of Messi and Xavi to training with him for the first time sums it up perfectly.
