September is always an exciting month for FIFA fans.
Every year EA Sports start the countdown to the new version by announcing the top 100 rated players in groups of 20 - until the top 10.
It's usually the same few names contending for the top places, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar dominating in recent times.
Ronaldo was named the highest-rated player on FIFA 19 earlier this week with 94, followed by Messi in second (also 94) and Neymar third (92).
For one reason or another forwards have historically always been rated higher than defenders on FIFA and that was once again the case on the latest edition.
Indeed, Sergio Ramos is the only defender to have made the top 10 on FIFA 19 with a deserved rating of 91. Diego Godin is the next highest in 13th.
But there was once a time when forwards and defenders were rated a lot more evenly, such as on FIFA 05.
It's been 14 years since FIFA 05 was released and the best starting XI that could be made on the game was absolutely insane.
Every single player was rated at least 92, which is pretty much unheard of on FIFA and just goes to show it was a golden era for world football.
FIFA 05'S HIGHEST-RATED STARTING XI
GK: GIANLUIGI BUFFON - 97
RB: ALESSANDRO NESTA - 94
CB: SOL CAMPBELL - 93
CB: JAAP STAM - 93
LB: PAULO MALDINI - 92
CM: PATRICK VIEIRA - 94
CM: FRANCESCO TOTTI - 94
CM: ZINEDINE ZIDANE - 96
RW: THIERRY HENRY - 97
ST: RUUD VAN NISTELROOY - 95
LW: RONALDINHO - 93
Okay, so Alessandro Nesta wasn't a right-back and Paulo Maldini wasn't a left-back, but FIFA 05 had so many 90-plus rated centre-backs that you just can't leave them out.
Compare that to FIFA 19's best possible starting line-up - which also features four centre-backs in defence - and you can see the difference.
