Floyd Mayweather Jr says a rematch of his much-hyped 2015 super-fight with Manny Pacquiao will take place in December this year.

Mayweather posted on Instagram yesterday, stating: “I’m coming back to fight Manny Pacquiao this year, another 9 figure pay day on the way.”

‘Money’ made about $220 million from his May 2015 fight with ‘Pacman’ and at the time posted a photo of a $100 million cheque — his guaranteed purse from the bout.

The 41-year-old American is desperate to get his hands on Pacquiao’s WBA welterweight title belt, which he won after he stopped Lucas Matthysse of Argentina back in July in Malaysia.

The Filipino legend claimed that he was severely hampered by an injured shoulder in the first fight, landing just 81 punches in 12 rounds, and has long-since talked enthusiastically about a rematch.

The massively hyped fight delivered a record 4.6 million pay-per-view buys, but was largely panned by most fight fans.

Mayweather defeated Pacquiao in 12 rounds by unanimous decision, 118–110, 116–112, 116–112, to remain undefeated in his career.

Mayweather has two wins since facing Pacquiao: against Andre Breton in 2015 and his August 2017 KO of Conor McGregor in the UFC star’s boxing debut.

Pacqiao took to Twitter last night to make sure his intentions were universally clear, posting: “50-1 #NoExcuses.”

The post was accompanied by a one minute video of Mayweather and Pacquaio exchanging words at music festival in Tokyo.

There are no promotional barriers between the two men, because Mayweather promotes himself and Pacquiao is a boxing free agent, so negotiations should run smoothly and a date most likely will be solidified in the near future.

Fight fans across the globe will hope that both legends are at full fitness when they touch gloves again and that they deliver on what should be one of the greatest battles ever fought inside a ring.
