Steven Caulker will forever go down as one of Jurgen Klopp's stranger signings at Liverpool.Signed on loan from Queens Park Rangers in January 2016, the 26-year-old was meant to ease the defensive crisis at Anfield. And yet, in all three Premier League appearances he made, Caulker was only ever introduced late on and used as a 6'3" target man when Liverpool needed a goal. Not once was Caulker deployed in the league as a centre-back and that summer he returned to QPR, where he spent a further two years before joining Dundee in Scotland.Caulker was absent for most of his time at Liverpool, though, and in June 2017 he bravely admitted it was because of depression and drunk and disorderly offences."I've sat here for years hating myself and never understood why I couldn't just be like everyone else," said the Englishman. "This year was almost the end."I felt for large periods there was no light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes I'd be sat there with the police and my lawyer, watching the CCTV footage of what I'd done.

CAULKER RECALLS HIS STRUGGLES

"I didn't recognise myself. I couldn't believe the person I was. It's so hard to accept I could be like that.

"In Liverpool I was waking up in the middle of the night throwing up, people were blackmailing me, club owners and bouncers: 'Pay money or we'll sell this story on you.'

"And I had no idea what I'd even done on those blackouts. I eventually told the club I could not function and needed to go back into rehab."

Caulker became a free agent in August after he triggered a clause in his Dundee contract and his latest career move just shows how much he's struggling.

According to freelance journalist Will Unwin, who writes for the Guardian, Caulker is set to go on trial at Ukrainian minnows Arsenal Kiev.

Bear in mind Kiev are currently rock bottom of the Ukrainian Premier League having lost six out of their eight games, conceded 16 goals and scored just four times. Yikes.

From joining Liverpool on loan to trialling for the worst club in the Ukrainian Premier League, it's safe to say Caulker's career is in turmoil at the moment.

It's been a tough few years for the centre-back and here's hoping he's able to get back on track in the near future.
