Billy Joe Saunders slams Amir Khan for avoiding Kell Brook fight

Boxing at Copper Box Arena

Billy Joe Saunders has ripped into Amir Khan over his last performance and alleged reluctance to face domestic rival Kell Brook.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the WBO middleweight champion has said that Amir Khan must fight Kell Brook next, after his ideal opponent Manny Pacquiao revealed he intends on having a lucrative rematch with Floyd Mayweather.

That means long-term rival Brook now represents the biggest fight on the table for the 31-year-old - a clash that has been brewing for years and one British fans have been desperate to see.

Saunders said: "Amir Khan needs to get down and sign that contract to fight Kell Brook.

"That's the real fight the fans want to see.

"You've gotta make business moves in this game, but they're not interested in Amir Khan - Manny Pacquiao and that - they're not bothered about him.

"The main one I wanna see him fight is Kell Brook and I think he is deliberately avoiding him because he doesn't wanna fight him."

Khan's latest performance fails to impress

Khan was knocked to the floor when he faced Samuel Vargas earlier in the month, and it may have caused many to doubt the Brit's ability in the ring as you could hear the gasps at ringside.

Khan hit the canvas against Vargas

Khan told Sky Sports News: "People think I can't take a shot.

"I wasn't hurt and got up straight away. If I was hurt, I would have taken my time in getting up.

"I lose focus. That's just something in me."

But despite hitting the canvas himself, Khan knocked Vargas down twice in what was a convincing unanimous decision victory in Birmingham, that is, however, depending on who you ask.

That's because Khan's winning performance failed to impress Saunders, who feels Brook would put the Brit down and out if they was to meet in the ring.

Brook beat Rabchenko earlier in the year

"He [Khan] looked shocking last time out, didn't he?" Saunders added.

"He didn't look in great shape, he was just shocking, and I personally think that Kell Brook would knock him out, sharply."

Saunders' next fight is in October where he will go up against Demetrius Andrade, whilst it is not yet confirmed when and who Khan will face next.
