With NBA training camps set to get underway next week, Jamal Crawford is hopeful of finally landing himself a new team before then. The veteran has been a free agent throughout the summer and has been taking the time to weigh up his options. He's received interest from several teams including the Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors. The latest team to be thrown into the mix is the Boston Celtics.

Mutual interest

According to The Athletic's Jared Weiss, there is "mutual interest" between the 38-year-old and the C's (via NESN).

"There is mutual interest between the Celtics and Crawford. That I do know," Weiss said on the Celtics Beat podcast.

"The Celtics didn't make an offer to him. He's been kind of waiting for the right situation to materialise.

"That's why he's holding out to training camp, basically. He wants to be in a position to win a championship. He wants to sign on with one of these title teams."

As one of the favourites to win a championship this season, Boston will certainly fit the bill for the shooting guard.

Crawford spent the previous campaign with the Minnesota Timberwolves, averaging 10.3 points and 2.3 assists in 20.7 minutes per game off the bench.

But he chose not to exercise his player option and instead decided to become a free agent to put himself in a better position to win a ring.

So it's no surprise that he's interested in joining the Celtics, who are widely regarded as the best team in the Eastern Conference and have a great chance to reach the NBA Finals for the first since 2010.

He would provide head coach Brad Stevens with a solid veteran option off the bench, in terms of scoring and playmaking.

As a three-time Sixth Man of the Year winner, he's still considered one of the best reserve players in the game and could be an asset for a young Boston team in need of more experience.

But with Kyrie Irving, Terry Rozier, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart expected to receive the bulk of the minutes at the two guard positions, Crawford may have to accept an even deeper role if he does sign with the Celts.

However, the 18-year man has also publicly declared a strong interest in joining the 76ers so it'll be interesting to see what he decides and where he'll eventually end up before the new campaign tips off.
