Barcelona have a point to prove in the Champions League this season. The Blaugrana haven’t won the competition since 2015.That’s not anything to be too concerned about for most clubs, but Barcelona pride themselves on being the best club in Europe.Indeed, Philippe Coutinho is bemused by Lionel Messi and Barca’s recent struggles in the Champions League. When asked why Barcelona haven’t played well in Europe in recent seasons, Coutinho struggled to come up with an answer."That's difficult to say,” the Brazilian replied.“Messi is the best player in the world, perhaps the best in history and it's difficult to explain that.”

Sneaky Lozano

They’ll go once again this season, kicking off their campaign on Tuesday with a home match against PSV.

Lionel Messi gave the hosts the lead with a wonderful free-kick in the 32nd minute.

It calmed the nerves inside the Camp Nou as an entire fanbase dreams of European glory.

And what a goal it was. Messi caressed the ball over the wall and into the back of the net.

No goalkeeper in the world is saving that.

But PSV tried desperately to do so - including Hirving Lozano.

Football fans spotted the Mexican striker crouching behind the wall to prevent Messi from shooting underneath it.

It was a clever idea. Messi has scored free-kicks like that before.

His attempts were in vain, though. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner simply sent his effort up and over the wall.

Messi has now scored eight free-kicks in 2018, which is just phenomenal.

He has gone to great lengths in recent years to improve his set-pieces and it's paying off.

His goal gave Barcelona the lead in their opening group match.

It was the Argentinian’s 61st goal in the Champions League group stage. That’s one more than Cristiano Ronaldo has managed in his own illustrious career.

The rivalry continues.
