Barcelona got their 2018-19 Champions League campaign off to the perfect start against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday night.Inspired by Lionel Messi, who helped himself to a hat-trick, the Catalan giants recorded a 4-0 victory over their Dutch opponents at the Camp Nou.Ousmane Dembele netted Barça’s other goal with a quite brilliant solo effort.Tuesday’s game provided Barça fans to catch another glimpse of £35.5 million summer signing Arthur. The Brazilian midfielder, who signed a six-year deal with the La Liga champions, has only appeared sporadically for his new employers since his arrival. And he was not handed a start by Ernesto Valverde against PSV, despite being rested in the 2-1 win over Real Sociedad last weekend. With Barcelona 3-0 up and cruising, though, Valverde decided to send on the South American for the final 10 minutes against PSV - but was that sufficient time for him to make an impression?

Barcelona fans make the same point about Arthur

Well, yes, actually. Barça fans on social media were very impressed with Arthur’s cameo and were all left making the same point.

They believe he’s the closest thing they’ve seen to the legendary Xavi since the Spanish World Cup winner left the Camp Nou in 2015.

He makes football look simple and effortless, when it’s anything but. His passes tend to be short but with always purpose and it’s clear that he’s an intelligent player.

Like all great midfielders, he’s always looking to see what’s going on around him before receiving the ball.

Messi has also compared to Arthur to Xavi

Interestingly, Lionel Messi has also compared Arthur to his former teammate, Xavi.

“Arthur has surprised me as I didn't really know him,” Messi recently told reporters. “’He is very similar to Xavi as he likes to have the ball, play short, not lose it and is very solid. He surprised me but I like them all.

“Arthur has the style we have here, he understood quickly in training.

“Barcelona fans like players who are good with the ball at their feet and we are used to having possession.

“I think that players like Arturo (Vidal) are important to have in the squad, football is about tactics and the physical side.”

Arthur was thrilled by Messi’s praise but knows the hard work has only just begun.

"It makes me feel very happy to get praise from Messi... especially from someone like him, because he is such an exceptional person," Arthur commented.

"Representing Barcelona and Brazil's national team is a huge responsibility - I know that I can't let these things go to my head.

"I have to keep doing my job with my feet firmly on the ground and continue finding my place out on the field of play."
