Liverpool secured all three points with a last-gasp win against PSG on Tuesday night.

The Merseysiders had flown to a 2-0 lead before PSG somehow found a way back, despite being dominated for large portions of the game.

However, Roberto Firmino was on hand to send the Kop into raptures with a low driven finish in stoppage time.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have laid down a formidable marker at the start of the season by winning all six of their competitive matches and will be desperate to capitalise on their fine start to the campaign.

Klopp’s project has come together beautifully and after his massive summer outlay, fans will be expecting silverware from a side more than capable of delivering.

With Virgil van Dijk marshalling the defence, James Milner in the form of his life in midfield and the terrifying trio of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino upfront, the Reds look a good bet to go all the way in the Champions League this year.

Perhaps the biggest compliment they could have been paid on Tuesday night came from PSG goalscorer Thomas Meunier.

Meunier initiated the Parisian fight back with a well-taken finish late in the first half but was under no illusions as to who was the better side on the night.

Meunier told RMC, translated by the Echo: “We should follow Liverpool’s example: they play simply, quickly, with lots of intensity and overlaps.

“It comes in waves, it never stops and the opponent is completely cornered. With our qualities, we can vary play, we have the players and the technical quality to do so.”

Suggesting that a side comprising of some of the most expensively arranged and precociously talented footballers the world has to offer should look to replicate Liverpool says everything it needs to say about the current state of the Anfield side.

Now their job is to back-up their powerful start and finally secure the silverware their massive fanbase craves.
