Manchester United got their Champions League campaign off to a winning start by defeating Young Boys 3-0 on Wednesday night.
The English outfit struggled for the opening half-an-hour but eventually asserted their superiority as they ran out comfortable victors.
Paul Pogba struck two first half goals before Anthony Martial scored midway through the second 45 minutes.
Diogo Dalot was also handed his first start in his Man United career at right-back.
The Portuguese youngster was signed from Porto in the summer and impressed as his side kept a clean sheet.
Jose Mourinho reserved praise for both Dalot and Shaw after the game.
"Diogo and Luke played very, very well," he said, per Manchester Evening News.
"Our danger came from both of them, they had fantastic movement, they had depth, they had crosses, they had assists, they were involved in the most dangerous actions and they defended also well. So both were very, very good.
"Luke is here for a few years, he is playing since beginning of the season.
"And for Diogo, first match for the club after knee surgery, I think very good, solid performance, I think everybody could see the potential and everybody could see that he is a 19-year-old player who has more than 10 years to play for Manchester United."
Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes were on commentary duty for the game and they also cast their verdict on the debutant.
"I think it was a good start for him," Scholes said on BT Sport. "Going forwards he looks fantastic. I think it was a great start for him."
And Ferdinand added: "He's going to have tougher tests. Remember he only had eight games for Porto. It was a steady first game and he's going to have a good future if he keeps on improving."
It looks like Dalot impressed two Man United legends with his display.
Ferdinand also mentioned Dalot in a tweet after the game. He wrote: "Professional performance tonight... plenty positives for Jose & @ManUtd... Pogba... Shaw & very impressive debut from @DalotDiogo 👏🏽⚽️ #UCL #MUFC"
And Dalot showed his class by simply responding 'Thanks Legend' to Ferdinand.
Mourinho will definitely have food for thought after Dalot's performance.
Antonio Valencia has cemented himself at right-back and is the club captain, but his position could well be under threat if Dalot continues to impress.News Now - Sport News
