Liverpool fans must be feeling on the top of the world right now.

Jurgen Klopp and his men pulled off a remarkable 3-2 victory over Paris Saint-Germain to get their Champions League campaign started in style on Tuesday evening.

The hero of the night - Roberto Firmino - was considered unlikely to play in the days leading up to kick-off due to an eye injury he suffered against Tottenham last weekend.

Jan Vertonghen did the damage at Wembley, poking the Brazilian in the eye as the pair tussled for the ball.

The Spurs defender was lucky to escape unpunished during the match and retrospectively, though Firmino wasn’t so fortunate.

Klopp took the risk of naming his first-choice striker on the bench to face PSG and it paid off.

With the score locked at 2-2, Firmino - who entered the fray with only 20 minutes left - wriggled his way through the penalty area to drive home a right-footed winner in stoppage time.

Cue delirium at Anfield.

When the Liverpool squad returned to Melwood in midweek, all the attention was bound to be on Firmino - not least because he was sporting a pair of protective glasses.

Being as funny as it was, the club media staff chose to focus on his temporary new look and tweeted a video.

It was accompanied by a quote from Klopp - who when he first saw Firmino said: “Edgar Davids is back.”

You've got to love the German's sense of humour.

But despite the Reds’ intentions, fans found an even more humorous angle within the footage.

It shows Firmino taking part in a small-sided game, exchanging passes with teammates to put away four very tidy goals.

However, rather than appreciating the attacking quality on display, many pointed the finger at the man between the sticks - Simon Mignolet.

And to be fair, they may have a point.

It might only be 40 seconds of one session, but there’s no changing the fact Mignolet was easily beaten four times on his left-hand side.

The Belgium international is set to have a hard time dislodging Alisson Becker from the starting line-up.

The £65 million signing has played every match to date this season and looked relatively confident despite exhibiting one or two lapses in concentration.

But whether Mignolet is on the pitch or not, he remains an easy target for all the jokers on Twitter.
