Paulie Malignaggi has claimed that Floyd Mayweather v Manny Pacquiao will sell, and has called rumours that boxing fans do not want to see the fight “b*llshit”.
News of the prospective fight emerged last week when Mayweather posted on his Instagram account on Saturday saying, “I’m coming back to fight Manny Pacquiao this year, another 9 figure pay day on the way.”
Speaking to Fight Hype, Malignaggi said: “It’s going to sell. It’s a fight that’s going to sell. Yeah its going to sell.
“Casuals [fans] are going to buy everything. Even boxing fans. Oh, we dont want to see that fight? B*llshit,” continued the 37 year-old.
Malignaggi himself will be looking to work the Pacquiao/Mayweather fight on TV as a pundit, saying: "I can tell you a lot of fights I’d rather watch, but if they make the fight, what, I’m not going to watch it? I’ll probably work it! What am I going to do, you know.”
Mayweather made a rumoured $220million from his fight against Pacquiao in May 2015, and posted a picture of his $100million guaranteed cheque on his social media feeds.
It seems that the lucrative rematch between the two fighters will happen, but not before the turn of the year as Mayweather had previously suggested.
The ‘Pretty Boy’ will now turn his attentions to a warm-up fight in Japan before returning to the ring against the Philippine former champion.
It will be the first time the American will fight outside of the United States as a professional boxer.
Mayweather has confirmed he will return for another bout before his showdown with Pacquiao in Japan, for a huge boxing event.
“I know everybody heard about the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, but before the Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch I will be back in Tokyo for a huge boxing event. Stay tuned,” proclaimed the undefeated American.
It remains to be seen whether the two sides will agree to terms of the much anticipated rematch, and whether either fighter actually need another bout regardless of the purse, but one thing is for sure, fans want to see it.
