Burnley manager Brian Laws wants to offer striker Jay Rodriguez a new long-term contract.

The 21-year-old, a regular in Laws' starting line-up this season, is in the final year of his current deal and Laws wants to tie him to his hometown club.

Laws said: "We are mindful that he is coming out of contract. We spoke to him weeks ago about improving his contract."

He added: "I said once we got this international break out of the way we will sit down with his agent and hopefully progress something with him because we want to keep him.

"He is young, he is a local boy and he loves the place. He's not going anywhere."
