Ousmane Dembele is now one month deep into a vital second season with Barcelona.

After making one of the most expensive moves in football history last summer from Borussia Dortmund, the Frenchman left a lot to be desired during his first campaign.

Although injuries prevented a consistent run in the team, there were doubts over Dembele's mentality and just four goals in 23 appearances represented a disappointing return.

The poor showings claim alongside reports in the Spanish media that he was struggling to settle in Iberia and was frustrating Barcelona staff with his diet.

Fast forward to this season, though, and Dembele has enjoyed something of a renaissance despite fears over his game-time with the arrival of Malcom.

Ousmane Dembele impressing at Barcelona

Dembele has already bettered his goalscoring tally of last season in 17 fewer appearances, including a fantastic strike in the Spanish Super Cup.

He also found the net in the Blaugrana's Champions League opener, prompting suggestions he was forming a lethal trio alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

There is still a long way to go for Dembele to reach the heights expected of him at Barcelona but, at age 21, he seems to have responded perfectly to a tricky debut season.

Dembele making changes at Barcelona

That certainly seems to be the opinion of those behind the scenes at Barcelona, too, with a report from AS revealing the positive changes Dembele has made.

However, they also note that there are alterations that need to be addressed.

The club has increased the daily attention they are giving to him, hiring an assistant for him to help out at home and telling him what he should and should not eat and drink.

It's a move that spelt an end to Dembele's love for soft drinks, which had prompted a warning from club nutritionists last season.

A dressing room source told the publication: “Being called up [for France] for the World Cup was a breath of fresh air. Then winning it and feeling important within that group has boosted his happiness massively.

“He understands more of what Valverde wants, but it’s too early to claim victory; there are still things that he finds difficult. The issue of tracking back when the ball is lost or the attack breaks down: that is where he must take responsibility and he’s doing so little by little.”

So, there's still some improvements to be made, but there's plenty of positivity surrounding Dembele now.

It seems he is really starting to sort out his life in Barcelona and adjusting correctly to ensure he delivers the best possible performances on the pitch.

Nobody doubts the talent he has at his disposal and both parties must do their upmost to guarantee the big move pays off in the long-term.

Making a name for yourself at Barcelona at 21 years old is no easy task and this season shows Dembele has the grit to turns things around at the Nou Camp.
