Marcus Rashford, 20, currently plays in a similar position and was part of the Man United academy during Ronaldo's golden years in Manchester.

"When Cristiano Ronaldo came to United, he was the one who everyone looked up to," Rashford told Inside United.

"He worked hard every single day, you saw him in the gym every single day and the results came on the pitch.

"He openly wanted to be the best player in the world."

Rashford burst onto the scene as an 18-year-old under Louis van Gaal, scoring a superb brace on his Premier League debut against Arsenal.

But plenty of pundits have accused Jose Mourinho of struggling to develop Rashford since he took over in 2016.

AMKFootball have compared Ronaldo and Rashford's statistics from their first three seasons in professional football.

The findings are pretty remarkable - and back up Mourinho's argument that he is giving Rashford ample playing time.

Rashford's stats are actually superior to Ronaldo's, almost doubling Ronaldo's goal tally in his first three seasons.

Incredibly, some fans are already becoming impatient with Rashford - but it's important to remember that he is still only 20 years of age.

He undoubtedly has the ability to become a future Ballon d'Or winner.

England manager Gareth Southgate recently spoke sense on Rashford after he scored against Spain and Switzerland.

"Harry [Kane] at that age had hardly played anywhere near the matches for Spurs," said Southgate when asked if he considered Rashford as one of the most special young talents in the world.

"Some of the stepovers and things Ronaldo was doing at that age, he wasn't converting them into the number of goals, so we have got to give him time to develop.

"He has still played a lot of football, although maybe not the continuous starts and I'm really pleased for him that he leaves here full of confidence."
