Charlotte Flair says she was never looking to face a WWE legend at Evolution

With the WWE's first-ever all-women's pay-per-view Evolution on the horizon, the card has started to take shape.

We already know that several legends will be returning for the event and five-time world champion Alexa Bliss is already slated to face seven-time world champion Trish Stratus, a woman commonly regarded as the greatest female wrestler ever.

Lita shall also be making her return to the ring where she faces off against Mickie James, a lady she has plenty of history with.

For the longest time, it seemed like Stratus and Lita breathed rarefied air and sat at the very top of the best ever. However, with women's wrestling at its apex right now, this latest generation could well top them.

The Four Horsewomen - Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Bayley - are all world champions in WWE and have all played a part in some historical firsts. They have undeniably changed the business.

And yet, none of them are slated to face any legends at Evolution.

GiveMeSport sat down with Charlotte at a WWE 2K19 event in London this week and we asked the Queen what legend she would have wanted to face and why she isn't facing one.

"It's not that I don't dream about wrestling Trish [Stratus] or Lita, but with the current storyline with Becky Lynch and I being so heated, it means that much more," Charlotte said. "It's not like 'oh, there would be this match just thrown out on the card because it would be exciting', what makes it exciting is the storyline behind it.

"You see these two best friends competing for the top place and then Becky evolving; so it's not that I wouldn't want to - it's all about the story."

Flair and Lynch are in the midst of one of the most gripping storylines in the company and, rightfully so, they shouldn't put that on hold for any event.

Becky holding the title

Still, one would think that pairing two seven-time champions like Charlotte and Stratus against each other would be an absolute no-brainer? In the battle to see who is the greatest ever, that match sells itself.

We spoke to Charlotte at a hands-on event of WWE 2K19 which will be released on October 9. Pre-order your copy right here.
