Most boxing fans will agree the heavyweight division is the most competitive it’s been for a long time.Anthony Joshua and Alexander Povetkin enter the ring at London’s Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening to contest the unified heavyweight world title. But aside from tonight’s bout, there’s a growing list of up and coming challengers waiting for their shot at the crown.Dillian Whyte is definitely among them - and he’s itching to make a statement. He last fought in July against Joseph Parker when he defeated the New Zealander by unanimous decision to retain his WBC Silver heavyweight title and clinch the vacant WBO International heavyweight title.Since that with at the O2 Arena, however, the 30-year-old has been eagerly looking to tee up his next one.Rivals Luis Ortiz and Deontay Wilder have been mooted as potential opponents, but in an interview with streaming platform DAZN, Whyte revealed the latter contacted him to say they won’t be meeting anytime soon."I was going to fight Luis Ortiz three or four years ago," he said."I said I'll fight you, but Wilder's got to agree that there's no second mandatory. There's no waiting six months or one year. You fight me next and no one else, but for me. Wilder goes, 'I'm not signing that.’“And he also said to me in private message saying, 'Oh, I'm going to make you wait two years.' I'm like, 'Why? You're getting paid career-high money.’“I can show you the text. I’m going to show you guys - there you go.”

While it’s difficult to make out every word on the screen, this is how Wilder’s message appears to read…

“Tell your promoters to give me what I want as well then we can get it on easy.

“I have no problems in fighting you as well as making money but Eddie [Hearn] is a liar.

“I’m sure you know this, I can tell by the way you look at him. They’re bad vibes, but he’s not running the show over here.

“But if I have to prove that then I will bro, because honestly I don’t have to do anything for at least two years. Get at him.”

Considering the pair were linked with a fight earlier this year before going in different directions, it’s an intriguing development.
