Anthony Joshua had a big point to prove in Saturday's fight against the world's third ranked heavyweight boxer, Alexander Povetkin.

Having only beaten Joseph Parker by unanimous decision in March, the pressure was on AJ to deliver in front of a packed Wembley Stadium.

And that's exactly what the 28-year-old did. He weathered some early punches from Povetkin to eventually control the fight and win via a seventh round knockout.

Joshua unleashed a brutal left and right hook to send his Russian opponent to the canvas. Povetkin managed to get back on his feet but before long the referee stopped proceedings.

April 13 is AJ's next fight and the Brit made no bones about wanting to face WBC champion Deontay Wilder.

"My number one [choice] would be Wilder," said Joshua in his post-fight interview with Sky Sports. "No contract has signed. Anyone's welcome."

So what about Tyson Fury? A fight between the Gypsy King and Joshua has long been tipped and boxing fans are hoping it will happen soon.

Fury posted a video on Instagram after the Povetkin fight saying Joshua will never fight him and describing him as "slow, methodical and ponderous".

"I think it's safe to say now that team Joshua or Matchroom will never fight The Gypsy King. Never," said Fury. "There was no mention that they'll fight Tyson Fury, the lineal champion of the world.

"It's alright fighting men 39 years old and half your size. Tonight is pure evidence that I'm fighting the best heavyweight out there in Deontay Wilder. Joshua is not even close.

"He's slow, methodical and ponderous at times. Powerful, yes, but they all are. Very very clear to see, avoid me at all costs.

"If I was you Joshua, I would avoid me. Because I would jab your face off. You bum. I've never seen a bigger bum in my whole life."

Joshua was asked about Fury's comments in a press conference and he responded by dropping the truth on the 30-year-old.

Fury, who has only fought twice since returning to boxing, isn't ready to challenge Joshua yet and that's exactly the point he made.

"I'll fight Fury if he's ready, but as I've said he's not," said AJ in the video below. "So good luck to him in his fight with Wilder. If he changes his mind in the future he knows where we are."

Joshua has sent a clear message to Fury that he's ready when he is, so the latter has no excuses now if he actually manages to beat Wilder on December 1.
