A controversial injury-time penalty by Marc Pugh earned promotion chasing Bournemouth a 1-1 draw against npower League One leaders Brighton.

Pugh scored from the spot after Tommy Elphick was adjudged to have handled the ball but Brighton claimed the offence took place outside the penalty area. Kazenga LuaLua's superb long-range strike had given the hosts the lead after the break and they looked good value for all three points until the penalty award.

Carlisle kept in close contention behind Brighton at the top of the table with a 1-0 win over Notts County. Striker Gary Madine settled the outcome in the 68th minute with a close-range effort.

Goals from Hartlepool defender Peter Hartley and midfielder Gary Liddle gave the home side a 2-0 win to dent Peterborough's promotion push while a second-half goal from Lewis Buxton gave Sheffield Wednesday a 1-0 victory over struggling Leyton Orient at Hillsborough.

A fine 3-0 away win over Colchester saw Huddersfield climb into sixth place in the table. First-half goals from Lee Novak and Anthony Pilkington put the Terriers in control before Jordan Rhodes added a third and Town could even afford to have substitute Lee Croft sent off for two bookable offences nine minutes from time.

Oldham kept Brentford rooted to the foot of the table with a fine 3-1 away win thanks to goals from Dean Furman, Chris Taylor and a penlaty from Dale Stephens. Myles Weston had earlier put the home side ahead.

MK Dons kept Dagenham and Redbridge anchored in the bottom four with a 2-0 home win courtesy of goals from Sam Baldock and Mathias Doumbe while Rochdale slipped to ninth place after a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of lowly Yeovil as a 65th minute strike from Luke Freeman was enough to decide the outcome.

A last-minute equaliser from Paul Benson earned Charlton a point in a 2-2 draw at Plymouth.

Bradley Wright-Phillips had given Plymouth the lead in the fourth minute only for Benson to level before the interval. Yannick Bolasie then looked to have given the home side all three points when he put Argyle 2-1 in front in the 82nd minute but Benson fired home from close range for his second of the game in the final minute.

Struggling Walsall beat Exeter 2-1 at the Bescot Stadium while Southampton beat Tranmere 2-0 at home with goals from Richard Lambert and Adam Lallana.
