In just under two weeks time, Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov will step inside the Octagon in Las Vegas to contest the Russian's Lightweight championship.

The belt was formerly McGregor's, taking it from Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November 2016, but after a period of inactivity, the Irishman was stripped, and Khabib duly defeated Al Iaquinta to become the proud new champion.

A month after McGregor and Nurmagomedov's encounter will be UFC 230, emanating from the historic Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Co-main eventing that card will be a Lightweight bout between Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz.

And what do the pair both have in common? They've both been vanquished by the two-weight champion McGregor.

Of course, Diaz claimed a submission victory over the 'Notorious' one first, but they've been rivals inside and outside the ring - nobody will forget their epic press conference clash where water bottles were thrown.

But McGregor has paid respects for the pair, however went short of making an actual 'Mystic Mac' prediction.

“I think it’s gonna be a great fight. Two amazing fighters,” said McGregor.

“Nate Diaz [is] as tough as they come. Dustin Poirier took that loss [to me] on the chin and came back and has showcased a good mental strength and has had some great, phenomenal fights and wins inside the Octagon.

“And I’m very, very much looking forward to it. We’ll see what happens after. So, I wish both men the best of luck and we’ll see.”

Not like McGregor to sit on the fence at all.

The clash will be interesting as it could name a number one contender to the belt that either Khabib will retain, or McGregor will regain at the T-Mobile Arena on October 6.

That means there's a possibility that the trilogy of McGregor - Diaz is completed, the scores currently standing at one-a-piece.

But the picture will be far, far clearer come November 3.
