The World Cup did very little to silence Neymar's vociferous critics. The 26-year-old was still recovering from foot surgery out in Russia and he did chip in with two goals and an assist. However, with the hopes of the Brazilian nation resting on his shoulders, the general consensus was that he did not do enough to help the Selecao progress beyond the quarter-finals, in which they lost 2-1 to Belgium.Instead, it was the forward's alleged playacting that attracted the most attention, notably against Mexico in the round of 16.On top of that, the burden of being the most expensive player in the world at £222million carries with it a certain responsibility. It's easy to overlook that - and yes, say what you want about the depth and quality of Ligue 1 - Neymar has already played a part in nine goals in seven games in all competitions for PSG this season. And against Rennes on Sunday afternoon, the former Barcelona man showed why, for all his well-documented faults, perhaps he deserves a little more respect than he often gets.

Neymar handled it perfectly

When a young fan ran onto the pitch asking for the PSG star's shirt, he put his arm around him and warded off the stewards who were quick to attend to the situation and take him away.

The boy was visibly emotional at meeting his hero, who promptly gave him his shirt and went to the dugout to fetch another.

Isn't football just beautiful?

This isn't the first time Neymar has had to deal with such an admittedly delicate situation.

In fact, just a few weeks ago, he treated another youngster with similar class in PSG's 4-2 win over Nimes.

On this occasion, his side ran out victorious again as Rennes let a 1-0 lead slip - handed to them by an Adrien Rabiot own goal - with the visitors scoring three through Angel Di Maria, Thomas Meunier, and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

Neymar might not have got on the scoresheet, but his dealing with the young fan won't be forgotten about in a hurry.
