Cristiano Ronaldo hasn't had much to cheer about since his move to Juventus this summer.Supporters had tipped the 33-year-old to dominate Serie A and potentially win the Champions League title with a third club, but Ronaldo has been left frustrated in his opening month.Ronaldo struggled in games against Chievo, Lazio and Parma before finally breaking his duck with two goals in the win over Sassuolo. However, just as things were looking up for the Portuguese, his Champions League debut with the Old Lady ended in dramatic fashion. After an off-the-ball incident with Valencia defender Jeison Murillo, Ronaldo was handed a red card and left the Mestella pitch in tears.

Ronaldo's slow start at Juventus

Clearer footage of the episode has shown that the decision was somewhat harsh but it was a huge blow nonetheless and could see him miss a fairytale return to Manchester United.

Before the conclusion of the UEFA investigation, though, Serie A action returned and Ronaldo had the opportunity to inspire some positivity once again.

Making the trip to newly promoted Frosinone Calcio, the opportunity for goals were clear yet Juventus struggled to take their chances and entered the break at 0-0.

Fans' verdict on Ronaldo taking free-kicks

Fans were becoming increasingly frustrated online and Ronaldo became the focus of their irritation midway through the first-half.

After Juventus won a free-kick in a dangerous position, Ronaldo quickly took responsibility and failed to deliver under pressure by tamely hitting the wall.

That very moment sparked reaction across Twitter with fans wondering why Ronaldo is continuing to take free-kicks for the club when Paulo Dybala and Miralem Pjanic have superior records.

It's certainly a fair point and has even led to speculation that Ronaldo is being given free-kick duties simply because of his status. Check out the reaction below:

Ronaldo isn't one to handover free-kick responsibilities but perhaps he should this season.

While a sensational knuckleball strike rears its head every now and then, there can be no denying that his recent record has left a lot to be desired.

That's especially the case when you consider Dybala and Pjanic have scored 16 goals from free-kicks over the last three seasons, compared to Ronaldo's tally of two.

Jose Mourinho alluded to this fact about Ronaldo's free-kick taking on the day of his last conversion against Spain at the World Cup.

"His [free-kick] record lately is not the best, I think for every free-kick he takes in the national team, he is not scoring as much as he did for Manchester United and for the first years in Real Madrid," he mused on Russia Today.

"But this one is the critical one, this one is a crucial point, it can affect the self-esteem, the self-confidence, the way to appear in the next two matches, the rivalry, what it means for Portuguese people who is at home."
