Jimmy Garoppolo was meant to be the successor to Tom Brady in New England. He was Bill Belichick's chosen one, the man to ease the transition after the eventual retirement of the GOAT.Instead, thanks to Brady's inhuman ability to still be an NFL quarterback at 41-years-old, Garoppolo found himself out of Foxboro after Patriots owner Robert Kraft overruled Belichick and decided that Brady was staying and Jimmy G would have to find his own way in the league. A trade sent Garoppolo to the 49ers, where he was expected to carry on the form that saw him go 7-0 and turn heads everywhere. That form got Jimmy PAID, netting a cool 5-year contract worth a maximum of $137.5 million. The Niners were hoping Garoppolo could keep up his incredible run and starring performances heading into this year, but things haven't been at that high level. And it got a lot worse today. With the 49ers trailing the on-fire Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 38-24 with five minutes left in the fourth quarter, Garoppolo took off from the pocket, rolling to his left toward the sideline. As he braced for contact while running down the sidelines, Garoppolo's leg buckled from under him and the quarterback ended up in a heap on the floor, looking in real pain.Take a look at it here....

You can see Garoppolo's left leg collapse and wobble after he tries to plant it while bracing, a very worrying sign that indicates ACL damage.

And that is exactly what the 49ers are fearing right now - with the team saying that the injury looks serious and that they are worried about not just a torn ACL, but also damage to his MCL.

It should come as no surprise to hear that this would put him out for the rest of the season, along with running back Jerrick McKinnon, and would leave CJ Beathard as the starter in San Fran.

Garoppolo will undergo an MRI on Monday to confirm the severity of the injury. We doubt it will be good news, sorry Niners faithful.
