Carl Froch confident Anthony Joshua would beat American heavyweight

Anthony Joshua v Alexander Povetkin - World Heavyweight Title Fight

Former WBC title holder Carl Froch is keen for Anthony Joshua to take on Deontay Wilder.

The 41-year-old made the bold claims after British fighter Joshua stopped Alexander Povetkin in the seventh round to retain his WBC titles at Wembley Stadium on Saturday night.

Froch named American Deontay Wilder and Brit Dillian Whyte as potential opponents for Joshua, with a bout in April next on AJ's radar.

Whatever happens, Froch admitted that the Briton will need to up his game when choosing future challenges, and that winning the WBC must be high on the list of Joshua's targets.

"I want to see him fight Deontay Wilder," Froch said. "I really do.

"I think AJ does it, but I don't think it matters now.

"He could fight Dillian Whyte, that would be a great one, look how well Whyte did against Joseph Parker - you can't write him off.

"I gave a bit of stick to Eddie Hearn the other day, I like to have a bit of a laugh with him, blame him for the final happening but it is what it is.

"The one about AJ is that he has to fight the top fighters out there." he continued.

"He does though doesn't he. He's got all the belts, he has not got the WBC belt but I'm sure he'll get it and he'll get it soon.

While there remains no news over who Joshua's next opponent will be, Froch is confident that Joshua could beat Wilder should the duo take to the ring.

"I think he can beat Wilder," Froch said.

"Will he beat him, who knows. He can be hurt, Povetkin had him in trouble.

"If Wilder catches him, Wilder will not let him off the hook - he'll go for the finish.

"He's young enough and capable enough to go for the finish and get the job done. I can't say Wilder won't beat AJ because he could, it's heavyweight boxing, anything can happen.
