Since making his return to WWE in 2016, AJ Styles has become perhaps the biggest name in pro-wrestling.
Arguably, he was already one of the best in the world whilst performing in NJPW, but once he made that huge move back to America, he became a global superstar.
A SUCCESSFUL START
The Phenomenal One currently holds the WWE Championship - SmackDown Live's top prize.
He regularly refers to the blue brand as "The House That AJ Styles Built" - and it's very hard to disagree with him.
After winning his belt back in November 2017, Styles has gone on to become to longest reigning WWE Champion of SmackDown - surpassing JBL's previous record.
As well as breaking records in the ring, AJ is also finding success away from it - especially when it comes to marketing.
He's on the cover of WWE 2K19 - and that is an honour given to very few people.
As you can probably tell, these days, it's almost impossible to imagine WWE without Styles - but that was the reality before 2016.
It's fair to say that AJ took his sweet time before arriving in Vince McMahon's promotion - and recently, he's revealed who it actually was that hired him two and a half years ago.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
During an interview with Cultaholic, Styles played a short game of word association - something that he clearly wasn't thrilled about.
The second name that came up was "Vince McMahon" - to which the superstar simply replied "boss".
The next name he was given was Triple H, and AJ's association for that is far more interesting.
"Hired me," he replied, hinting that The Game was perhaps the driving force behind WWE eventually signing him in 2016.
NOT JUST HIRING NXT STARS
That's actually quite interesting, considering that HHH is usually more involved with NXT, rather than the main roster.
There was absolutely no chance that Styles was going to be placed in WWE's developmental brand when he arrived with NJPW stable-mates Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson.
So, the fact that Triple H was apparently behind his hiring is pretty cool and once again, The King of Kings made a brilliant decision - but there's no shock there.
