How West Ham players mocked Andriy Yarmolenko for his miss vs Chelsea

Andriy Yarmolenko of West Ham

West Ham appear to be on their way to digging themselves out of an almighty rut.

The Hammers began the new Premier League season with four defeats on the spin, including two home losses to Bournemouth and Wolves.

However, Manuel Pellegrini's side finally showed their class in the 3-1 win away at Everton last weekend and followed it up with a composed display against Chelsea.

West Ham stood firm throughout against Maurizio Sarri's side and recorded a well deserved point at the London Stadium.

They could have actually taken all three right at the end had it not been for Andriy Yarmolenko's horror miss.

The Ukrainian scored twice against Everton, but couldn't get his header on target against Chelsea when it looked easier to score.

The cross from Robert Snodgrass was perfect and Kepa Arrizabalaga in the Chelsea goal was rooted to the spot.

However, Yarmolenko just couldn't take advantage. Had Marko Arnautvoic been on the end of it, it could have been very different.

The former Borussia Dortmund man worked his socks on the right flank throughout, so fans did have some sympathy.

But it seems his West Ham teammates didn't, as Yarmolenko took to Instagram to reveal their brilliant reaction in the locker room.

You just can't beat the old '50p head' insult.

The £17.5m summer signing does look like he could be a very useful asset for West Ham and Pellegrini this season.

And Yarmolenko said after the Chelsea game how Hammers fans have already 'surprised him' this season.

He said: “There seems to be many fans of West Ham and that’s really surprised me. In Ukraine people think in London, they only support Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham.

"But West Ham are a very big team with amazing fans.”

That certainly won't do his growing reputation among supporters any harm.
