Nabil Fekir showed Liverpool what they’re missing out on last week.

The Lyon star, who came very close to securing a £60 million move to Anfield in the summer, has hit the ground running this season.

He shone in the 2-1 win against Manchester City in the Champions League and followed that up by scoring and providing an assist in Lyon’s 4-2 win against Marseille on Sunday.

Liverpool, of course, haven’t missed Fekir.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have made a perfect start to the new campaign and sit at the top of the Premier League table.

The Reds had agreed a deal to sign the 25-year-old but his injury history derailed the move.

It’s unclear whether Klopp will reignite his interest in signing the France international in January, or whether they will simply move on.

Fekir's a wanted man

But if they do decide to go back in for Fekir, they will face competition this time.

According to L’Equipe, and brought to our attention by the Mirror, Fekir has attracted the attention of Real Madrid.

Los Blancos, who defeated Liverpool in last season’s Champions League final, are monitoring the attacking midfielder’s progress with a view to making a bid in January or next summer.

Real Madrid have made moves for Neymar, Eden Hazard and Kylian Mbappe, all without success.

And it seems as though president Florentino Perez could see Fekir as a more realistic option as Julen Lopetegui continues to reform his squad.

The Real boss has made an impressive start since taking over from Zinedine Zidane in the summer.

They sit alongside Barcelona at the top of the La Liga table through five matches; life without Cristiano Ronaldo is going rather well.

Karim Benzema has stepped up with four goals while Gareth Bale has contributed with three in the league and one in Europe.

Add Fekir to an attacking group that also includes Marco Asensio and Isco and Real will be hard to stop.
