FIFA’s The Best awards were held in London on Tuesday evening as the achievements of the best players in the world were recognised. This was the third edition of FIFA’s rebranded ceremony - and easily the most controversial.Mohamed Salah collected the Puskas Award ahead of Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, much to the surprise of, well, everyone.Meanwhile, the Egyptian was left out of the FIFPro World XI despite being among the three-man shortlist to win The Best Men’s Player of the Year award.FIFA may have to rethink its awards ceremony if it is to have any credibility. The Puskas Award is a fan vote, which has led to a pretty ridiculous outcome. There’s also some confusion at FIFA’s attempts to determine the best goalkeepers in the world.

Chelsea's tweet hasn't gone down well

Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois won The Best Men’s Goalkeeper award - but he was nowhere to be seen when the World XI was announced.

Instead, Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea was between the sticks.

Strange.

Anyway, Courtois left with the goalkeeper award after beating Hugo Lloris and Kasper Schmeichel and his former employer set about congratulating him.

Chelsea, who sold Courtois to Real Madrid in the summer, wrote on Twitter: “Congratulations also to Thibaut Courtois, who has won #TheBest FIFA Goalkeeper 2018 award at the #FIFAFootballAwards”.

Chelsea’s tweet, while pretty classy, was never going to go down well with the club’s fans.

Courtois left Stamford Bridge in acrimonious circumstances after failing to report to training.

The Belgium international has also taken a few swipes at Chelsea since signing for Los Blancos.

"I am now experiencing on a daily basis that Sergio Ramos is the best centre-back in the world,” Courtois said.

“The level [at Real Madrid] is higher than at Chelsea.”

The 26-year-old also expressed just how much he prefers playing at the Santiago Bernabeu over Stamford Bridge.

So Chelsea fans expressed their fury over the club’s decision to congratulate Courtois.

“Please delete this post,” Twitter user @BisanRoyson wrote. “This guy betrayed us.”

Chelsea signed Kepa Arrizabalaga to replace Courtois and have made an impressive start to the new season, winning five out of six Premier League matches.

But that isn’t enough to let the fans ignore any praise towards their former No.1.
