Mohamed Salah had a rather eventful evening at FIFA's 'The Best' awards in London on Monday night.

After enjoying a sensational first season at Liverpool, the Egyptian was rewarded with a nomination for the main award alongside Luke Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo.

For all his heroics for the Reds, there was to be no crowning moment for Salah as Modric took home the top prize and Kylian Mbappe nearly usurped him in the voting.

Nevertheless, Salah did have the opportunity to take the stage and give a victory speech when he was declared the winner of the FIFA Puskas award.

His goal against Everton last December was heralded the strike of the year despite great controversy and the fan vote is believed to have skewed the results.

Salah excluded from FIFPro World XI

That's especially the case when you consider both Ronaldo and Gareth Bale were nominated for their stunning bicycle kicks in the Champions League.

However, Salah would surely have the opportunity to stand in front of the cameras for a more deserving award in the 2018 FIFPro World XI. Right?

Well, to the confusion of everybody, Salah wasn't included in the team of the year despite being voted as the third best player in the world.

Lovren speaks out on Instagram

Forwards Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Eden Hazard all featured in the team ahead of Salah who amassed far more votes than them and came closest to winning the titular award.

For obvious reasons, the arrangement sparked great confusion and no shortage of reaction on social media with a number of Liverpool players speaking out.

Perhaps the most notable has come from Dejan Lovren who posted on his Instagram story whilst sat with Salah himself in Liverpool training. Check out his post below:

Too right, Dejan.

It's only fair that Liverpool players and others bring the matter to attention because, frankly, Salah has been hard done by and should have made the team of the year.

Either that, or FIFA should have made the decision to include one of Mbappe, Hazard or Messi within the final three to challenge Modric.

There will no doubt be reforms to the system ahead of next year to avoid confusion because the Salah incident wasn't the only bizarre decision.

Thibaut Courtois was declared the goalkeeper of the year with his very own award, but also missed out on the FIFPro World XI to David de Gea.

The Salah verdict has received the most attention, though, and supporters are just as baffled as Lovren.

Liverpool fans will have to hope it inspires their Egyptian magician to ensure FIFA have no choice to include him in their team next season.
