Mick Schumacher has admitted he is happy to be linked with a move to Ferrari, a team his father represented so famously.

Schumacher, 19, is currently competing in his second FIA F3 season, but that has not stopped rumours start to circulate about a possible move to the Italian giants.

His father Michael, won seven F1 World Championships, five consecutively with Ferrari from 2000-2004.

However, after a 2013 skiing accident left the F1 legend in a mysterious health condition, the German has not raced since, with his son now at the stage of his career where he is attracting attention of his own.

Schumacher, who sits top of the F3 European Drivers’ Championship standings, has responded to the rumours of interest from Ferrari.

"It's nice to see that my performance is recognised, and if it's by a team like Ferrari, that's very nice," Schumacher said, per The Express. "But to just be mentioned generally in the world of Formula 1 is positive."

Not shy of interest, Schumacher has also emerged as a target for Toro Rosso following the decision to promote Pierre Gasly to Red Bull.

But the teenager cited his focus is solely on securing the F3 title, only a year on from finishing in 12th in his first season.

"The focus right now is clearly on Formula 3," Schumacher said. "We are discussing it, but at the moment there is nothing fixed."

Red Bull driver Dan Ticktum is second to Schumacher in the F3 standings, and the Brit recently took a aim at his rival, as he suggested the surge in form has only been highlighted due to Schumacher’s name.

"It seems to have come from nowhere," Ticktum said. "Unfortunately I am fighting a losing battle as my last name is not Schumacher."

Austrian publication Speedweek asked Schumacher to respond to the claim, but he said he was not willing to enter a verbal war of words with his title rival.

"I do not listen to something like that," Schumacher said. "The car is terrific to drive. We've evolved as a team, while others may have stopped at one point. I wish him good luck that he stays in the title fight. But I focus on myself, that's my key.

"Everyone evolves during the year. We never stop working and learning. After my win at Spa it was not easy, but we managed to be consistent, especially in qualifying, with good lap times."
