Last weekend, Minnesota Vikings' Everson Griffen was hospitalized after his involvement in separate incidents that caused team leadership to be concerned for his mental health and well-being.

Due to being in the hospital this week, the defensive end didn't play during the Vikings' loss on Thursday night vs Los Angeles Rams.

However, Griffen posted an update on his health on his Instagram account last night, as well as when he is planning to return to the field.

The defensive end apologized to "everyone who was impacted" and thanked his family, teammates, the Vikings organization and the fan base for support expressed toward him and his family.

He also stated that he does not have an exact timeline for his return but vowed to return as a "much-improved person and player."

Griffen's Statement

The Vikings star said: “This past week’s events have raised many questions and I apologize to everyone who was impacted. I am currently focused on resolving personal issues with which I have been dealing for a long time.

"Once I have had time to address those issues, I hope to share my story with everyone.”

“I am extremely grateful for the support I have received from my family, the Vikings organization, my teammates and our tremendous fan base.

"I apologize for not being able to take the field with my teammates and do not have an exact timeline for my return. I promise, however, I will return as a much-improved person and player.”

Last week, Griffen reportedly had been "explosive, screaming and yelling" at the team facility and had been struggling in recent weeks, according to a police incident report from the Minnetrista Police Department, via ESPN.

He was then involved in an incident at Hotel Ivy in Minneapolis, where he had been staying for several days, in which he allegedly threatened to shoot someone if he was not allowed in his room.

The defensive end was later involved in a separate incident where he showed up at Vikings cornerback Trae Waynes' home and allegedly tried to enter, according to the police report, an allegation Waynes denied in a statement issued by the Vikings.

The Vikings are very supportive of Griffen, as the team's head coach Mike Zimmer said on Tuesday during a press conference: "The only thing I'm really concerned for Everson about isn't anything to do with football, it's about him getting better."

Griffen hasn't played for the Vikings for two weeks now, as he was ruled out of the team's Week Three game against the Buffalo Bills due to a knee injury.

It's currently unclear if the defensive end will be able to return to the Vikings in time to play in their Week Five contest against the Philadelphia Eagles next week.
